You Can Teach Old Dogs New Tricks

So I think if the whole photography thing doesn’t work out well for me that I might get into dog training. ;) I have no idea where this talent came from, but I’ve been able to teach my dog several awesome tricks in his lifetime. Not only this dog, but all of my dogs. Kinda bizzarre. One of these days, maybe I’ll take video of all of his many tricks. In the meantime, I wanted to show this one that I taught him in 20 minutes this weekend.

The loud noise that I’m making is me saying “bang”, then pretend shooting him, and then him pretend dying.

First Flowers – Boise Photographer

Yesterday was yet another nice day. Hoping for the same today.  It also brought my first blooming flowers. I have a few others that are on their way to blooming, but these are always the first. I never hesitate to grab them as soon as they are ready.

Now before you judge, I’m not a florist. I have some random stuff around that house that I’ll put together to make my flowers pretty. I LOVE having fresh flowers. It takes lots of will power for me not to buy fresh flowers in the winter.

Dear Summer… – Boise Photographer

Dear Summer,

Thank you for a wonderful weekend. I was able to soak up the sunshine – which put me in a great mood. Please keep it up, my husband’s sanity depends on it.

Your Pale Friend,

Too Cute for Words – Boise Newborn Photographer

My friend Alecia told be about this brand new blog she was going to do. The idea was to create a blog that is opposite of Fail Blog. For those of you who are not familiar with that website, it is just all things fail. Overall it is mostly negative.

She decided that each day she’d post a photo of something that was “too cute for words”. I thought that it was a great idea.

Here is the About section I pulled from the site:

This website was created to counter stress and negativity.  It was inspired by my co-worker who would go to my blog to see pictures of my baby whenever she was stressed.  Smiling over the cute pictures made the stress melt away and put a smile on her face.  There are so many negative things being reported in the news around the world, this site exists to provide the positive…the things that make you smile…the things that make you say, “cute!”  or “Ahhh, that is sweet!”

Check out Too Cute for Words.

You can also submit your own photos. Submit your photo HERE.

And because no post is complete with out an image….

If I Could Eat Ice Cream Every Day – Boise Photographer

Just a warning, this is a totally random (non-photography related) post.

I love ice cream.

If you ask any of my friends, I probably talk about it several times a day.

A perfect example via twitter:

I’ve also discovered a way I can eat ice cream more often without having to worry about calories as much. Don’t get me wrong, one will still have to exercise regularly and practice moderation. However, you can still enjoy ice cream and not worry that your pants won’t fit in the morning.

Let me show you some stats from different companies’ websites. I just picked random and basic desserts.

McDonalds Desserts

Hot Fudge Sundae – 330 Calories

11.6 oz McFlurry w/M&M’s – 510 Calories

12 oz Chocolate McCafe Shake – 580 Calories

Just to be extreme: 32 oz Chocolate Triple Thick Shake – 1160 Calories

Sonic Desserts

14 oz Sonic Blast w/Oreo – 680 Calories

14 oz Chocolate Shake* – 560 Calories

14 Oz Sonic Blast w/Snickers -770 Calories

Cold Stones Desserts

Chocolate Cake Batter

Like it Size – 340 Calories

Love it Size -550 Calories

Gotta Have It Size – 820 Calories

Wendy’s Frosty

Small – 330 Calories

Medium – 410 Calories

Large – 520 Calories

There isn’t anything below 200 calories. Of course you can find menu items that are lower in calories (banana splits, parfaits and such) but I decided to pick what I thought would be the most common. Also, in order to stay within your daily calorie count, you’d have to do some mega workouts to burn those suckers off (my basic counting trick is it will take approx 1 mile to burn off 100 calories – it’s not an exact count but pretty close)… or skip meals. The McDonalds Milkshake at 1160 calories – that is almost the average ENTIRE calories for the day.

So… I swear by these desserts now.

At 150 calories a cone, you’re saving TONS of calories and these things are super delish. They’re about $5 a box, but an ice cream cone is about $1 anyway right? Totally worth it. Another thing that is great about these is it’s really easy to budget these into your diet**. For example, instead of having an apple and string cheese for a snack you can just skip them and have an ice cream cone and it’s basically the same calories. That way you can have ice cream and won’t have to exercise to get rid of the extra calories. You’re just substituting. Or you can eat it in addition and then work it off. 150 calories is EASY to burn off.

Anyway, I could go on and on about this because I find nutrition very interesting. I am by no means an expert, but I feel like I have a good understanding about this sort of stuff.

You can find these at Albertsons. That’s where I always buy them from.

*This one is our guilty pleasure, but at 560 calories? Yikes. That is roughly a 5 mile run.

**By diet I mean regular eating schedule, not necessarily a weight loss diet.

Tornad… Wha? – Boise Photographer

When you think of Idaho what do you think of (besides the obvious potato joke)? Probably not tornado land right?

WRONG.

The other day I was driving the usual way home. In the sky ahead I noticed a difference in the clouds. They seemed denser than normal. They were also floating along pretty fast.

I looked over to my right and noticed an even crazier sight. One of the clouds resembled a tornado. I decided to pull over and grab a shot of it because I knew nobody would believe me because let’s be real here, it’s Idaho.

When I stepped out of the car to take the picture it was unreal. There was definitely a different feel to the air. It was floaty and electric, yet nice. I felt excited and wanted to sit there and enjoy the view.

First thing I did was upload the photo to Twitter.

To my surprise:

So long story short, the tornado was a huge deal since Idaho rarely gets them (though it does happen). It touched down a couple times (I think, or maybe just once). But there wasn’t any major damage. Here are my cell phone shots.

PS. I can’t explain how sad I was that I didn’t have my good camera in my car. OF ALL DAYS.

Blog Maintenance – Boise Photographer

Posts might be a little on the short side around here this week as I’m switching some stuff up. I’m completely switching over to a self-hosted WordPress account instead of the WordPress hosted version.

In the meantime I’ll leave you with this sweet little lady from the country.
