Before and After – Boise Photographer

A before and after post is due! I haven’t done one in a while.

.

I like to show the difference between an edited and non-edited image. I pride myself in not doing any crazy editing but more of just enhancing the photo.

.

So these next two shots, for instance. The first shot looks great, but I wanted to lighten it up a little bit. I just used the curves setting in photoshop to lighten it up a bit, smoothed out her skin just a tiny bit using a Photoshop mask action I purchased from MCP Actions. You can create your own action to smooth out skin but I thought it was cheaper and easier to purchase my own.

.

The next shot was exposed the way I liked, but was too “cool” for my taste. I may have BARELY adjusted the curves but almost unnoticeably so. I wanted to make it look much warmer. I attempted to fix it during the shoot by changing my white balance but because it was during sunset in the middle of January I didn’t have much of an option. So that is where photoshop comes in handy. To neutralize the magenta I used the color balance tool in photoshop and slid it over to the green side. That will help fade out some of the magenta look. Then, I used TRA’s Warm it Up Chris at 50% opacity to really make the yellow/orange pop. Afterwards I used the same skin smoothing action I mentioned above to smooth out a few blemishes. And that’s it!

Feel free to send me any questions!

A Couple Firsts….

The last couple months have been a little crazy in this household! First. I GRADUATED. FINALLY. Whew. That was a long process. I started school in 2004 and finally finished. I went part time for a year or so to do other things but finally decided to kick it into gear and finish.

THEN, I finished my first half-marathon this weekend. I’d started training in September and feel good. Then a few of my running buddies got hurt and the holidays came around and I hadn’t been running the last 3 weeks. So I KNEW it would be painful. Luckily I have the best husband (who is a rockstar and can run a half-marathon without blinking) that stayed with me the entire time.

Before the Race

Post race!

As of now there aren’t any full-marathons in my future but you never know. Runners are crazy. I think I’ll eventually do another half-marathon but will need to get some more training in.

Win a Free Engagement Session! Boise Idaho Wedding Photographer

I’ve been wanting to do a giveaway for a little while but wanted to come up with something creative and something that will reward someone who just deserves it.

.

I’ve decided to give away an engagement session for a couple who deserves it. Whether they devote hours to their church or community, served our country, or a couple who has gone through a tough time this year and could really use a break.

.

Ultimately I will let the fans decide who they think is the most deserving, as I could NEVER make the decision on my own.

Sharing the Love – Boudoir Experience

Another boudoir experience for those who are on the fence about it. I’m running a special in the next couple weeks!

——————————————————————————-

Boudoir photographs have always intrigued me, and when Tamara posted last year that she was going to be offering mini-sessions, I knew that I should sign up. I was very nervous, and spent several days trying to decide if I should have the photos taken or not. Finally, I decided that I should just do it. A) I knew Tamara was extremely talented, and the pictures would be good, and B) it was the perfect way for me to get out of my comfort zone. Something I had resolved to do in 2011. I spent some time looking at Tamara’s boudoir portfolio, and other photographer’s portfolios, trying to decide how I wanted to look in my session. The weekend before my session I went shopping for some new lingerie, and was getting excited for my session.
The morning of my session, I was pretty nervous, and was nervous when I arrived at the hotel. Even though Tamara had taken pictures of me and my husband before, this was different. I’m not a shy or overly modest woman in general, but normally I dont pose for cameras in my underwear (or less)! Tamara was the consumate professional, and since we get along well, my nerves were soon assuaged. By the time my session was over, I wished that I hadn’t only had a mini-session, but a full length one. I couldn’t wait to see the pictures! The pictures turned out great, and were everything that I had hoped for. I was so excited to give my mini-book to my husband, because he had NO idea, and because having pictures like this taken, and then printed in a book, was so out of character for me.
As a plus size woman, I could have easily decided that boudoir photos are not for me, and let my own internal fears hold me back. I am so glad that I had them taken, and hope to have another session done in the future.

FAQ Video – Megapixels

In the summer/fall I will host photography classes where we will get together and I’ll help photo enthusiasts/moms/dads learn more about their DSLR cameras. They’re not classes for professionals, more for those who want dive into their camera using manual. Since I started doing that I’ve received lots of different and random questions. I usually answer them individually but decided it would be fun to post videos to hopefully help others with similar questions.

.

Here is my first video! Now don’t laugh, apparently I say “um” a lot and plan on working on that :) .

.

I decided to start out with a very basic question for my first one, and will hit the more complicated ones as we go.

.

Feel free to ask any other questions by emailing me (tamara@tk-foto.com) or asking on Facebook. Below is the chart I mentioned in the video.

Sharing the Love – Boudoir Experience

I love sharing different photo experiences that clients have sent me. Especially with sessions that seem a bit not traditional. For boudoir sessions I don’t share photos with faces or real names :)

My Scantily Clad Experience

No way, no how. I was simply not going to do it. These were the thoughts rolling around in my head after Tamara suggested I partake in one of her famous boudoir mini-sessions. After picking my jaw up off the floor, I collected the necessary information: location, time, items to bring… attire? Yep, Tamara confirmed that I do actually have to be less than appropriately clothed in order for it count as a boudoir session. I quickly created a few panicked pro/cons lists in my head and realized that this was something I would never do – and consequently I had to do it.

Once the decision was made, I had the task compiling potential outfits for my photography session. Having never really spent much time and money on lingerie, I had an awkward assortment of bra and panty sets. Nonetheless, I packed them all up and reassured myself that Tamara would know what was best. A few finishing touches the morning of my session and I was on my way to cross something off my bucket list.

Every fear I’d ever had about the session was immediately wiped away when I entered the hotel room. It was not set up like a porn film set, as I had pictured in my mind. Tamara had set up a few lights here and there and simply moved some furniture around. After choosing a few outfits and outlining our session we were off and running. I felt most self-conscious as I posed for my first shot, uncomfortably aware of my awkward body. However, with a little encouragement I was able to relax enough to enjoy the session. Was it slightly awkward? Sure. Was it anything like I had pictured? Absolutely not. All in all I enjoyed the experience and was proud of myself for stepping outside of my comfort zone.

It was not until Tamara sent me a few photos that I realized what I had done. The photos were stunning, tasteful and an incredible ego boost. I had never seen myself in such a light. They were not sexy, provocative photos like I had imagined. They were sensual, intimate photos that portrayed me as a beautiful woman. I had previously envisioned boudoir photos as a taboo form of sexual teasing. Instead I left with beautiful photos that I would be proud to show off –to a few select individuals that is. My experience has forever changed my way of viewing myself and my body. And I’m so thankful to have come to this realization before it was too late to appreciate. — Erotic E

Taking Back Valentines Day – Eagle Magazine Article

A few weeks ago I had the great opportunity to meet with a writer at Eagle Magazine.  She wanted to do a piece on spicing things up in her marriage and had a great opportunity to do a boudoir session with her and her husband for the magazine.

.

The magazine JUST posted so I’m excited to share with you! Here’s the article. I’ll also link the magazine in case you have issues reading the piece. Click here to view bigger. You’ll have to scroll through to page 20 until you find it.

.

AND! Since the article itself doesn’t have many pictures, Pamela gave me the OK to share some of my favorites “magazine friendly” from their shoot. They were total naturals!

.

ALSO, I just added boudoir mini-sessions a couple days ago! Click here if you’re interested in details and booking.
