What is a first look? It’s an experience brides and grooms are opting for instead of waiting to see eachother before the wedding. A private meeting is arranged and the bride and groom will get to see eachother before for the first time.

I’ve posted this before, but I am such an advocate for the first look. I had to share Alexah’s email about her experience. Aside from the fact that you get to join party right away after the ceremony, but I also feel like it provides an intimate experience and sets the tone for the wedding. It really gives the bride and groom a minute to soak in what is really happening. After all the hard work and planning, this is the time for them to really enjoy each other.

“During wedding planning the very first thing I did after setting a wedding date was book our photographer. Before buying a dress, booking a caterer, a bartender, even a venue, I booked our photographer. I spent a good two months researching photographers before I contacted Tamara, and one of the things that I loved about her photography was her photo-journalist style, which to me is encompassed in the “First Look” pictures. As a photographer myself I knew that you cannot control every variable there is surrounding a ceremony, even the most seasoned and prepared photographer can have issues arise, so between that and the fact that I was preparing to have the worlds shortest ceremony, it made the first look photo’s a “no-brainer.” The part that I didn’t anticipate was how much more pleasant the wedding day would go doing pictures ahead of time. It would be an understatement to say I was stressed at the start of my wedding day, once Tamara arrived things went much more smoothly. I cannot imagine Tamara not being there because she was the only one who was really able to calm my nerves until we started pictures and I was able to see Garrett (my husband). I don’t think I would have been as calm and able to enjoy my ceremony had I not been able to see him before the wedding, the pictures we did before the ceremony were priceless, they were romantic, fun, whimsical and intimate, which is what our wedding was about. I know we could not have gotten anything near that quality or with that emotion had we done them after the ceremony, not to mention after the ceremony I just wanted to get to the “fun part” so to speak and felt guilty enough as it was taking the few wedding party and family photo’s that we did (once again Tamara calmed me down about “taking too long” as well). In short, we planned the first look photo’s more out of convenience but now I cannot imagine doing them any other way, nor having any other photographer. Thank you for all your help and the beautiful photos we will have to last a lifetime, Tamara!” – Garrett and Alexah Rush

Ugh. Can I go back and do my wedding over? I totally want a first-look now. Then maybe I wouldn’t have cried hysterically down the aisle.
