Gearing up for Spring – Boise Idaho Photographer

Yesterday was an awesome day so I took advantage of cleaning up the yard and planting seeds and bulbs. Our yard always looks so terrible in the early spring but it’s always refreshing when everything blooms.

This year I splurged and bought lots and lots of new stuff with the plan of pulling out lots of old stuff. I wish I had taken a “before I gutted everything” photo, but instead you’ll get a “after I gutted but before it’s pretty” photo.

Basically all of the bare spots used to have a plant in it and now have either seeds or bulbs in them. I also trimmed all the bushes down to nothing. All of the random green spots in the yard will be gone and will blend with the rest.

I didn’t do this alone. Oh no. I had a helper.

I told you I hated laundry… – Boise Idaho Photographer

Okay internet. I’m trusting that you guys are my friends and that you don’t judge harshly. As you will notice, today’s post is pretty late. That’s mostly because I worked in the yard all day (which I will report with tomorrow), and I needed to tackle my ever-growing pile of laundry.

When I say ever-growing, I mean it.

I’ve always hated doing laundry. Growing up, I would have rather worn dirty clothes then to do laundry. Hated it. Then I started college. I’ve always had a good job in college so I wasn’t one of those poor college students. So, instead of washing laundry, I would just buy new clothes (you think I’m kidding but I’m not). That’s how much I hate laundry.

After my boyfriend (now husband) and I moved in together, he quickly learned that I despised doing laundry. We decided that doing laundry separately was probably the best way to go. That way he didn’t have to wait 3 weeks for clean clothes since boys only have a week worth of clothes and girls have 3 weeks worth of clothes.

Now that I’m grown and married, I can’t be so reckless with my money and buy clothes whenever I run out of clean ones.

During times where I’m not so busy, I can usually keep it under control. The last couple weeks, however, not so much. It had actually gotten so bad that my shoes were starting to get lost in the process.

Before I show you proof, you must promise to not judge me. I mean it…. promise. This photo is also proof that I need a bigger closet because ours is bursting at the seams.

Here it goes….

…and my husband’s side.

For the record, I am a pretty organized person in general just not when it comes to certain areas of personal space. It also doesn’t look this bad anymore. I’ve since managed to organize and start the washing process. Sadly, half of those are clean and half are dirty.

There are some pros to this system. By not doing laundry as often I am able to equally wear all of my clothes. It forces me to wear all of my clothes instead of only my favorites.

Geek Thought of the Day – Boise Idaho Photographer

I’m a strange duck. We all know that.

So I was shooting some photos (in-home, natural light stuff) and started getting super excited about the light that I had available. So excited that I started saying “Oh man, we’re going to grain this out. Like major grain.” I proceeded to get even more excited about the light.

Later I was thinking about those thoughts and how much I LOVE natural light. It is so fun to shoot with and and you always get something different. I think only another photographer can appreciate my geeky-ness of light, but I felt the need to share.

Then it reminded me of this photo.

Okay, last one. I swear. – Boise Idaho Maternity Photography

I keep showing snippets of this session because I just love the way that these ones turned out. Here’s one more. Then when I’m finished I’ll wrap it up.

PS. I’m sure you are all tired of seeing bellies by now, but ANY day now all these babies are supposed to be born. Except this one, she has to wait until June.

PPS (or is it PSS? – Who cares?) This is 100% all natural light. The black background is her shadow.

Calibration – Boise Idaho Maternity Photographer

This post has nothing to do with this photo… but a little bit it does.

I just recently ordered a monitor calibrator. It had never really crossed my mind until after doing some prints I noticed a variation in my photos on the screen vs my photos in print. It wasn’t a big difference, but I started to become paranoid that my photos are going to be way off from what they should be. I was also worried that it would get worse and suddenly I would be over compensating my editing when I didn’t need to.

So this week I received my monitor calibrator. I was happy to see that my monitor wasn’t off too much, but was still off. There will still be a difference from computer to computer, but that’s something I can’t really control. Another variable will be where my clients decide to get their prints done. If they are going to a place that doesn’t specialize in professional printing, they’ll notice a difference as well.

So this photo was edited with a calibrated monitor and I’m confident of my prints now.

Komen Billboards – Boise Idaho Photographer

I’ve posted many times about my friend Nicole who is finishing up her journey with breast cancer. By finishing up I mean she’s beat it and has headed down the road to recovery.

A couple months ago Komen called for real breast cancer patients (or survivors) whose hair hadn’t quite grown back yet. They photograph these women and use their photos for ads for the race.

Nicole was the perfect candidate (plus who can be how great she looks). They photographed her and her daughter and put her face around the valley.

Here’s one of the billboards that is up right now.

Fairview and Cloverdale

Here’s the original since you can’t tell very  much in the actual. I caught it close to 8pm when it was starting to get dark.

Also, we have a Race for the Cure team started. We would love for you to join our team.

Seniors! Kimberly Garza – Boise Idaho High School Senior Photographer

It was hard not sharing every photo from this session. This young woman is extremely photogenic and full of life. It was a breath of fresh air to see the optimism that is entering the adult world.

This session was fun because we got the opportunity to venture on Boise State’s blue turf. That is where she is attending college next year.

Here are some of my favorites from the session.

One of my favorites, if not THE favorite. Nothing beats a real laugh.

It's Alive!! – Boise Idaho Photography

I was starting to lose a little faith in gardening because I’m struggling to keep my lettuce alive. Then today I looked at my little babies and noticed that they’re all starting to sprout. Yes, all of them.

The ones that are the most obvious are the watermelon. You can see those popping up quick. you can see the tomatoes a little bit but the flowers are still in there pretty good.

Here’s an update on my babies. Now I need to find a good place to strategically place them in my yard.
